Hallandale Beach has come a long way since its first
settlement by Henry Morrison Flagler in the late 1800s. Before Flagler entered
to expand the Florida East Coast Railway to Palm Beach in 1895, the area was
largely used as a hunting and gathering area by native Americans.
Luther Halland, one of Flagler’s railway workers founded the
town and it was settled by only a few Swedish, English and African American
families in 1900. Today the city has a population of 32000 year long residents
with over 10 000 people residing there over the winter.
The city is most well known for the Gulfstream Park and
Mardi Gras Casino greyhound racing track, home of the World Classic. Known as
the “Gaming Mecca” of Florida, this area offers everything from slot machines,
to poker and, of course, the racing. It remains an exciting destination for
most visitors in the area, who come to indulge in the gaming options as well as
take part in the other activities offered in the area, such as dining and
accommodation.
Hallandale enjoys thousands of tourists every year, both
from Quebec and the US. Many of these tourists choose to settle in the area
upon retirement.
Hallandale is also known for its recreational atmosphere
which centers mostly around its beach. Water sports are popular in the area,
with diving and snorkeling, the main attraction, together with surfing and jet
skiing. Expanding the recreational activities inland, Hallandale also offers some
spectacular golf courses and fantastic shopping.
Like most tourist destinations in Florida, Hallandale Beach
is covered with waterfront restaurants, offering delicious, fresh seafood. All
of these activities make it one of the most ideal spots for holiday makers and
people searching for a sea change.
With its warm climate, friendly locals and pristine beaches,
Hallandale is a must see destination for everyone!
